An Italian plastics manufacturer is building a $11.5 million plant in Wilson County, its first operation in the United States, company and state officials announced today.
So.F.Ter. Group is planning a 100,000-square-foot plant on 21 acres off Highway 109 in Lebanon that also will serve as the company’s U.S. headquarters. Ultimately, the site is planned to expand to more than 250,000 square feet, the company said.
The plant, which will make, develop and sell engineering plastics for the U.S. automotive, appliance, construction and electrical markets, will employ 50 workers within two to three years, with potential to reach 150 in 10 years.
“We are excited to be part of this project that will bring So.F.Ter. Group to the United States,” So.F.Ter. Managing Director Mark Rodden, who will lead the new U.S. operations, said in a news release. “So.F.Ter.’s product portfolio is one of the most comprehensive in the industry. So.F.Ter.’s experience, financial strength and long-term view will enable us to focus on customers with a one-to-one approach.”
So.F.Ter. Group, based in Forlì, Italy, makes a range of products including thermoplastic elastomers, thermoplastic vulcanizates and engineering plastics. It has three manufacturing plants in Italy.

The Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. is bringing a division headquarters back to Nashville, a move that’s expected to add 75 jobs to the grocer’s office on Elm Hill Pike, The Tennessean reports.
Kroger is splitting its mid-South division between Nashville and Louisville, Ky., reversing its decision to combine them in 2002, a spokeswoman told the newspaper. About 25 employees now work in a regional office in Nashville.
Rick Going, currently president of Kroger’s Michigan division, will lead the expanded Nashville office, which will oversee 63 stores in Middle Tennessee and 28 in Knoxville and Huntsville, Ala., according to a company statement.

Interesting article from the Wall Street Journal about criminal background checks on job applicants. “The guidelines don’t bar the use of criminal checks, but urge employers to consider the crime, its relation to an applicant’s potential job, and how much time that has passed since the conviction. The guidelines also recommend that employers review each case individually, and allow applicants to show why they should be hired despite a conviction.”
